Aaron Goldberg Trio at Firehouse 12 This Friday, April 4

April 1, 2008 - Improvised Communications

On Friday, April 4th, New Haven's Firehouse 12 will bring New York-based pianist/composer Aaron Goldberg and his trio to town for a two-set performance as part of the venue's ongoing 2008 Spring Jazz Series. The group, featuring bassist Reuben Rogers (Jimmy Greene, Joshua Redman, Dianne Reeves) and drummer Eric Harland (Terence Blanchard, Charles Lloyd, SFJAZZ Collective), is Goldberg's flagship ensemble and has appeared on all three of his CDs, including his most recent, Worlds (Sunnyside).

"Over the past decade, pianist Aaron Goldberg has maintained one of jazz's most delectable trios," writes the Boston Globe's Andrew Gilbert. “Featuring the swinging bassist Reuben Rogers and the capaciously inventive drummer Eric Harland, the ensemble has forged a singular sound with an expansive textural palette and a repertoire deeply informed by Brazil's finest composers...[Worlds] is a gorgeous session that makes a compelling case for Goldberg's ensemble as one of the era's definitive piano trios."

Much like the other members of his trio, Goldberg's distinctive voice makes him an in- demand performer on his instrument. His work as a sideman includes stints in bands led by Wayne Escoffery, Wynton Marsalis, Madeleine Peyroux, Joshua Redman and Kurt Rosenwinkel among many others. He is also a member of the OAM Trio, with bassist Omer Avital and drummer Marc Miralta, which has released three CDs on the Fresh Sound New Talent and Lola Records labels. A Boston native, and 1996 graduate of Harvard University, Goldberg currently resides in Brooklyn and serves as the musical director of All Souls at Sundown, a jazz and poetry series at Manhattan's All Souls Church.
