Brazilian Nights: The Music of Jobim

Projects

"Over three decades since modern Brazilian music captured our souls. It's heartening to find the legacy of the genre's original masters in so capable of hands. This is an instant masterpiece."
- NY Latino

Brazil's greatest performers of Samba and Bossa lead a star-studded group celebrating the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim featuring Trio da Paz, Harry Allen, Joe Locke, and long time Jobim vocalist Maucha Adnet.

Featuring three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz updates the infectious spirit of jazz-oriented Brazilian music. Formed in 1990 by Romero Lubambo, Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca, the Trio redefines Brazilian Jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms.  All three are seasoned masters of both jazz and Brazilian music with impressive resumes. Trio da Paz has recorded and performed with Dianne Reeves, Michael Brecker, Grover Washington, Jr., Kathleen Battle, Joe Henderson, Don Pullen, Yo-Yo Ma, Paul Winter, Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, John Scofield and Tom Harrell. Trio da Paz as a group has recorded and performed with Charlie Byrd, Herbie Mann, Lee Konitz, Kenny Barron and Nana Vasconcelos, among others.

Saxophonist Harry Allen has over thirty recordings to his name. Three of Harry's albums have won Gold Disc Awards from Japan's Swing Journal Magazine, and his album Tenors Anyone? won both the Gold Disc Award and the New Star Award. He won the New York Nightlife Award for Outstanding Jazz Combo Performance of 2006 and was nominated for Best Jazz Combo by the Jazz Journalists Association for the same year. Harry has performed at jazz festivals and clubs worldwide, frequently touring the United States, Europe and Asia. He has performed with Rosemary Clooney, Ray Brown, Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Barron, among others.

Joe Locke is regarded by many as the most gifted vibraphonist of his generation. In addition to his strengths as an instrumentalist, recent recordings and live performances by The Joe Locke / Geoffrey Keezer Group, The Joe Locke Quartet, Revelation - The Music of Milt Jackson and his group "4 Walls of Freedom", offer evidence of his ever-growing stature as a band leader, composer and conceptualist.

Maucha Adnet began her professional singing career at the age of 15, as a member of vocal group Céu da Boca. Maucha toured with Jobim worldwide and performed in Jazz Festivals and venues such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Hollywood Ball, Bill Graham Wiltern Theatre, and many others. Maucha has also recorded with such artists as Dorival Caymmi, Chico Buarque, Dori Caymmi, Caetano Veloso, Toninho Horta, Mario Adnet, Joyce, Nara Leão, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Charlie Byrd, Gil Goldstein, Emily Remler, Rob Mounsey, Othelo Molineaux, Trio da Paz, Harry Allen, Duduka Da Fonseca, Slide Hampton and many others.
