The Bossa Nova originated in Rio de Janeiro in 1958. And by 1962, thanks to the release of the revelatory classic album, Jazz Samba, it had become a worldwide phenomenon. This historic recording featured Stan Getz, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Charlie Byrd, and topped the charts with popular singles “Desafinado” and “One Note Samba.” Their follow-up album was one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time and included Jobim’s “Girl from Ipanema,” one of the biggest smash hit singles in jazz history.
The evening will celebrate this landmark movement and feature long-time Jobim vocalist, Maucha Adnet, saxophonist Harry Allen, and Trio da Paz, one of Brazil’s most in-demand ensembles. Trio da Paz (Romero Lubambo, Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca) continually redefines Brazilian Jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. All are seasoned masters of both jazz and Brazilian music and have performed with Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dianne Reeves, Charlie Byrd, Herbie Mann, Lee Konitz, Kenny Barron and Naná Vasconcelos.
